A Saturday Psalm

Psalm 139:7-12 ESV

Where shall I go from your Spirit?

Or where shall I flee from your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, you are there!

If I make my bed is Sheol, you are there!

If I take the wings of the morning

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

Even there your hand shall lead me,

And your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,

And the light about me be night,”

Even the darkness is not dark to you;

The night is bright as the day,

For darkness is as light with you.

This passage brings me great comfort. There is no place we can go where God is not already there. Not only is he there, but he is also holding my hand and leading me to my next destination.

Sometimes people get so focused on the busyness of today, with its numerous distractions, that they forget where they are in the moment. It doesn’t matter if it is a pleasant place or a hard place. What does matter is God is already there. We simply need to pause long enough to recognize his presence.

A friend reminded me of this recently. It is very easy for me to fill my head with the happenings of the past and possibilities of the future, good or bad. In time all I hear is noise. When my thoughts become that noisy, I struggle to hear God’s voice or feel his presence.

I need to just stop. Stop and listen for God’s voice. Stop and feel his presence because I know he is there. My question then becomes do I want to stand with God in the present or continue to struggle with the noise in my head. I choose to be in the present with God, how about you?

Blessings,

Kathryn
