Balance for Our Bodies
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
~Romans 12:1 ESV~
This verse speaks of your whole body: physical and spiritual. Our job is to take care of them. They need to be cared for and nourished, but they also need balance. Over and under indulgence in food, alcohol, or even exercise can lead to obesity, addictions, and injury. We need to know our bodies well enough to know what to put in them, how much, and how often. We can seek help from medical professionals to help us find our balance. Then we live everyday striving to do our best to live healthy.
Our spiritual life needs a healthy balance too, but it looks a little different. Our overindulgence does not necessarily come from studying too much, but from what we spend time studying. Studying is a good thing. Deep diving into biblical text can teach us a lot but when we spend more time looking at the past than we do at Jesus feet today, our balance can shift fast. The same is true in reverse. We can also not open our bible enough and that is where we learn God’s story and the place he can speak to us. For me, always starting with prayer and asking God to show me what he wants to teach me helps me to find the balance I need.
Ponder: Where do you need to focus on balance in your life?
Blessings,
Kathryn
