Don’t Just Stand There

“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying to me? Tell the people to get moving! Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground.’” Exodus 14:15-16 NLT.

Moses has just told the Israelites to stay calm, and God will fight for them. Evidently, he didn’t fully understand the message. Yes, God would fight for them, but they had to act on his help. Moses had to raise his staff. The people had to get moving! God provides the way and we need to follow his direction.

I wonder how many times God has come to fight for me. How many times has he set the path and I have just stood there expecting him to do all the work? God created us and he knows what gifts we have, whether we have developed them or not. God knows our heart. He didn’t create us to be passive humans, simply moseying through time and space. He created us with a purpose.

Our purpose is first to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. Then we are to take that love and share it with the world. To do this we use the gifts and talents he has given each of us. That talent may be preaching from a pulpit, teaching in a classroom, writing a book, singing a song, praying privately or corporately, simply having quiet conversations with individuals, or any number of other things one may have been gifted.

Your path lies in front of you, your gift lies within you, what are you waiting for? God says it is time to act. Get moving and take that first step out of your comfort zone and onto God’s path in front of you. I would love to hear what that step was and where God is leading you now.

Blessings,

Kathryn

  1. Thank you Kathryn! Reminds me
Of my favorite poem by Robert Frost.
“Two roads that morning equally lay with leaves no steps had black.
Oh I kept the first for another day yet knowing how way leads on to way, i doubted if I should ever be back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh, somewhere ages and ages hence
I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference.
