REMINDERS FROM NATURE

I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

Psalm 9:1 ESV

Recently I rearranged my office in a way that would allow me to look out the window. We have created a faux nature zoo in our backyard. I love birds and one Christmas my family provided bird feeders, a bird bath, binoculars, books, and food for my feathery friends. It brings me great joy to look out into my backyard and see them enjoying their goodies. I said faux zoo, because we unintentionally sparked interest from other little critters. I have a large bunny that loves to come hang out among the clover under the barn feeder. I have deer that pause and eat from the shrubs outside my fence. Of course, we also have the numerous squirrels that love to snag peanuts before the Blue Jays and Cardinals take them. My backyard can be quite entertaining.

The fun came when I fed the birds today. I filled the barn with mixed seed first, then I filled the sunflower seeds and added the peanuts to the planter. A Blue Jay sat on my fence row at the end of the yard watching me. When I stepped inside to get the suet blocks, he flew straight to the peanuts, along with a second Blue Jay and a male Cardinal. They just could not wait. Finally, I put our suet blocks up and the woodpeckers came zooming in. My bird friends know where to come to get fed.

This brought so many memories of God’s provision to my mind. Over the years, I have lost count of the number of times God has provided exactly what I needed physically, spiritually, emotionally, and typically through people and ways I would have never expected. Most importantly, it reminds me that I know exactly where I can go to get fed spiritually. God’s Word speaks and the Holy Spirit lives within me. I am never alone. Just like my birds trust me to feed them and they know the feeders are in my backyard, I can trust God to provide for me, and I know where I can find Him. Today I thank God for the beautiful reminders of his provision and presence.

Stop, watch, and listen to nature today. God is reminding you that HE is still here.

  1. I love love love this one. Sometimes when I “searching” for God I make it so complex by trying to find a solution in the Bible, but in reality it’s just as simple as watching that bunny or that blue
    jay find the peanut!!!

  2. LOVE this so much!!! God speaks to me through nature as well. He gave us a home literally in the woods! Only God… ❤️

  3. I love the birds too, Kathryn when it snowed for so long last winter, we just threw See out on the ground and they ate it right off the snow. It was fun to have a whole crowd of birds just in our front yard. Thank you for the encouragement today.
